Boredom is the cauldron in which we mix our spells.

Example: John Lennon was once described as the laziest man in England, happy to sit and do nothing for days on end. I seem to recall that he did ok.

Awesome example. Yes, boredom is the cauldron!

Just like the question that a teacher asked Lennon when he was young. What do you want to be when you grow up? Lennon answered: Happy! The teacher said he didn’t understand the assigment but Lennon said they didn’t understand life.

You have two extreme here: laziness and rushing. The thing lies in between for laziness is a sin according to the Bible and many reputable thinkers and philosophers.. Some parts of your poem ring true but others miss the mark at being true or carrying any truth the way one may see it.

You are right, that balance is key.

I'm not advocating for extreme laziness or sloth. Im advocating for time for thoughtful reflection and open minded creativity. But sadly if it doesn't look like your nose is to the grindstone 24/7 in this world, it is mistakenly perceived as lazy. I'm talking more about perceptions of laziness than actually being an uninspired cog in someone else's machine.

"Internal world of creation", it is there that we access the creator. Much wisdom in your writing, as always. I'm afraid that digital media's incessant demand for content has turned creative idleness into a luxury for many.

So true. It's that incessant demand that is so pernicious. Thank you KC.

I think you conveyed the essence of being idle very well. As it allows us to think and get more insight on things.

Wow I relate to this so much. I'm always telling other people to slow the hell down. That good work requires time and patience. Fabulous insights Franco

So true, that little moment of laziness might spark the greatest idea.

This made me think of this

Only in darkness the light,

Only in dying life:

Bright the hawk’s flight on the empty sky.

it really is hard to catch a breath. But we have the ability to stop and in some way control our own breathing. Life is chaotic, but we can use our own stillness to quell the storm.

I find that maintaining any sort of creative spark requires regularly spending periods of time doing nothing, or close to it. Sleeping, watching trash tv, turning your brain into idle mode. You need the lazy and rest. This poem captures this well!

Thank you, Morgan. Yes, it's remarkable what a little sleep and some shitty tv will do for your imagination.

Have you ever noticed that when we watch shows on TV, the SWAT teams from whatever country, always burst through locked doors - SCREAMING - Police, put up your hands, Police stop moving, Police … creating a wave of confusion into which they bring order. This is what Society does to "bring order" into what they perceive as confusion. Spending all that time thinking and singing and inventing when Goddamn it they should be out there working! We need time within ourselves to think of the future we want to see. Because if we look around us - that is the world all the SCREAMERS are creating for themselves. Great essay, Franco.

Exactly, god forbid we have enough tranquility to think for ourselves and reflect on the root cause of the disorder. Maybe we'd realize just how shitty the mechanisms of control are, and we might imagine something better. I always love your insights—they get me to think even further and deeper. Thanks, Joe.
