why was it so hard just now to make this damn decision? to choose to walk this path that was otherwise inevitable… to love this life, and to love the choices and their consequences is a challenge that seems too daunting — for me at least… the paper falls from my hand and has landed
I find it so easy to resonate with your stuff, Franco.
When you talk about how painful small talk is--I'm over here screaming and feeling so seen. Sometimes friends will text me just to make small talk and it's so difficult to engage. I'm right there with you.
Persecution taunts Tantalus every day like decisions to reach out for the carrot at the end of a stick and have it taken away. Then you keep pushing the plow. Slowly every day another foot in the grave. But you see not Tantalus but a pencil to write alone with your thoughts for others maybe to read and continue with your day dreams taking one step at a time to explore possibilities and reach heights to get a better view to make a decision to jump or not. Hamlet wonders what to do next. He hesitates. Decisions. It just takes a moment. Wait a minute or a few seconds, another heart beat. You may change your mind get a new perspective. And life goes o. The carrot is delicious once you finish the task.
"paper falls from my hand and has landed" gave me the intriguing feelies. what could it mean? I like the finality of it - a soft choice, but one that has an impact nonetheless.
If there's a count of how many people passionately hate small talk, I'm sure I'll be included. Yet sometimes, I just might have to say something trivial to someone. I think as much as we find it annoying, it's still good, in a way. After all, it's human nature. Great poem, Franco. Sth I deeply resonate with.
WOW! Great read! Responsibly not just to oneself but for others is hard to see these days. Barriers are what makes life interesting, frustrating, maddening, scary, etc. Thank you Franco!
THIS POEM IS RIPE FOR AN ANSWER FROM ANOTHER POET, RUDYARD KIPLING:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph (victory) and Disaster (defeat)
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
THEN YOU WILL BE A MAN, MY SON...OR WOMAN OR PERSON
Wow I love it. Thank you for this answer from RK. I will not forget it.
I gave the Kipling poem, IF, to both of my sons...I think they have taken it to heart:

The dichotomy of choice: freedom as well as its personal responsibility. Humanity's eternal conundrum...
As you've written, it's all we can do to try; that's what life is about anyhow, pushing through the obstacles and just trying and trying again.
Yes absolutely. Thank you, Bethel!

Good to know people are connecting with what I have to say. Thank you for the comment, AJ

Thank you, it references a personal choice that I had to make. Thank you, Van :)
I do like that “rise at 8 die at 5.”
Brilliant Franco.
Thank you, Karl. Means a lot.
