sometimes, the best days
are the ones where
you don’t have to interact
with anyone at all
zero conversation days —
a break for the part of your brain
that always does battle
with other people’s perceptions,
social annoyances,
and other arbitrary distractions
inherent to the human condition
no need to stress about
word choice
or inside voice
or is my hair sticking up back there?
zero self-consciousness days —
you just go…
the body just knows
what the hell’s an inner monologue anyway,
but a silly proxy
for external heart-to-hearts?
put that shit to rest
and have a day —
a zero conversation day
it’ll
do
you
good
Garbage Notes:
This one makes me kind of sad because it’s been so long since I’ve had one of these. Zero conversation days. The introvert fantasy.
I think it’s kind of nice not to have to say a single word to another human being for a whole entire day. It reconnects you with yourself. You don’t have to feel self-conscious about anything. There’s no drama. No worry or concern about what others might be thinking or feeling.
I’m talking about a sort of peace that really is difficult to attain in this noisy world. Between jobs that force us to interact with others on the daily. Families. Spouses. Children. Not to even mention the deluge of social obligations and interactions we have to deal with online because of technology and the internet.
Just try to go a day without someone texting you. No phone calls. No voicemails (why are voicemails still even a thing?) or replying to an email or just having to run down to the pharmacy to buy soap or something.
People… always people, we are surrounded by people. We need people. But we also need a break from people. And every once in a blue moon, even still, it can be possible to have one of those crazy wild no-conversation days. And wow, it can be quite refreshing.

Imagine for a second you are just chilling in your house and doing your thing. And every now and then there is a knock on the door. To answer it you have to strap on a full of medieval armor and you aren't even sure if it's worth all the effort. What could be?
