Simply incredible Franco. The quiet fervor in your voice oozes the passion you speak of. I needed to read something like this today. Been hesitating a lot in my life lately, and your words hit me with the fire I desperately needed. THANK YOU.

That ending. You have a knack for ending poems on a mic drop line. May we all go kicking and screaming into some new passionate future that is our own.

Beautiful job Franco. I don't know what it is but I so enjoyed your voice on this reading. Very glad you decided to become a writer and start reading your poetry aloud. Such a powerful lesson in this poem.

YES! I agree! I turned 60 with all my kids getting married and moving out! I didn’t know what the heck I was supposed to do with that! So I started writing a book! It’s taken a while but I am in the home stretch now! I’m glad I did something hard and I comfortable when I thought in my head, “Who the heck is gonna wanna read your book?” I still don’t know the answer to that, but I’m glad I took the step and then where it leads — I’ll figure that out next!

Franco Amati's avatar

congratulations on taking the leap! people will want to read it. im sure it it :)

Franco, what incredible timing for me to hear this now, today.

I won my SSDI case after almost three years of fists overhead, ready to

Fight to the bloody end

I turn 48 this summer

I’m over the hill

And becoming

More me

And I’m excited for especially the writer friends I’ve missed (you) to be in conversation with our ideas and creations

Aimée congrats on your win. It's great to hear from you again. I see that you just sent me something in Scuzzbucket. Looking forward to reading it. You'll hear from me again shortly. :)

Congratulations! My son is going through the torment right now. This gives me hope. (Although, the people here keep sending him to the wrong doctors, etc. for the wrong things.)

Despite the number of times that I have undertaken the evolutionary process into something else, something more...and that I KNOW it can be done..it still feels monumental. Thank you so much for the reminder, Franco. Your words are not lost on this transitory soul 💜

Franco Amati's avatar

thank you Matty! it most definitely can be done. thank you so much for the support, Matty. I really appreciate your generous donation. 💜

I love this call to action. I slowly came back to writing too. In my late 30s. Like so many I had that abstract idea that I’d write a novel “someday” and I learned that if you don’t do it—when you work full time, when you don’t think you can carve out the space, courage, and time—you never will as the elusive free time will never come. Betting on yourself now can inch you closer to the dream life but even if that never comes to fruition, creativity and bravery are the end goals too. They will fulfil your life in ways you couldn’t imagine! 🥰🫶🏻😘

Franco Amati's avatar

absolutely, you’ve said it well. thank you Elaine 🫶🏻

But also your poems are amazing so they’re already having an impact. ❤️❤️❤️

It's hard to let go of the feeling that we were so much more competent in the past. And maybe we were for some things, but you're right. There's always a new beginning. Who says we can't nail it? Your poems are so inspiring - thank you, Franco!

Franco Amati's avatar

thank you Wendy! yes. the best time is not 20 years ago because we were better then. it's because we would have had longer to get better at whatever the thing is. But you can always nail it now, you can always use everything you've learned to start something new. Experience translates. Thanks, Wendy.

Nice, Franco. My favorites of your poems, like this one, make the reader reflect on themselves and nod. My "best time," also, was decades in the past. But so what? I'm still here, and this piece is a reminder to stop looking back and get on with it, whatever "it" happens to be. Thanks, as always, for the nudge.

Franco Amati's avatar

Thank you Craig. Yes, we're still here, let's make it count. Glad this hit you when you needed it. Cheers my friend.

funny how a résumé is supposed to tell the story of a life... yet most of the things that actually changed a person would never fit on one (。◕‿◕。)
