It's just hit me how much harder it is for the elderly to adjust to little changes, I'm going to remember this when watching my aged mother struggle with changes.
Hey Franco. I love this piece! It really speaks to me as my wife and I moved about six months ago from a big old house in the suburbs into a small apartment in San Francisco. Everything is new and unfamiliar, which is energizing and fun and a bit daunting, too. But, that was the idea. Shake things up. Kick off a big new chapter!!! Here's to re-learning where the light switches are and hitting the bowl more than missing it.......and to way fewer stubbed toes!
I can't remember what it was like to move into a new space. I've lived in this house for forty years, but it is not the house I moved into. It is not even the house of a year ago. We constantly adjust it to suit our current needs. I read recently that our real home is spiritual, and it is located within us. Thanks for reminding me how special a home is, Franco.
I related to this on an array of levels. I am "a gypsy," a friend told me because I choose to rent (largely because LA real estate is stupid expensive) and invest a downpayment instead. Also, I last moved two years ago and I still don't always recall how the freaking lighting works - which switch controls what. Constantly rearranging/replacing furniture as well. The 'editor' in me I guess

Thank you Neena
Sounds like the life of a highly sensitive person. 💕
I suppose you could say that

glad to hear that you could relate to this.
That magical voice of yours...
On the topic - the only thing I don't like about travelling is changing the bedrooms. :)
It is quite astonishing how we adapt without even realizing it.
Yes absolutely!
love this :)
❤️
I like the quiet yet firm resolve toward patience in the last line.
thank you Ria

I think you're right. Our real home may very well be spiritual. Thank you K.C.!
It's funny how we get used to those little things over time and take them for granted. Change can be challenging but exciting, just like you say.
So true. Thank you, Rod!
I’m just like this in every hotel.
haha, yes, it can definitely happen in hotels but at least there you know it's temporary

haha, yes...I can so relate to that. maybe it is the editor in us. <3 thank you dear friend.
🫶🏻 Love it! I wouldn’t consider myself a “poetry person” but I enjoy our poems and the notes that accompany them. Plus your calming voice.
thank you, a lot, Eliane. I enjoy your work as well :)
Thank you 🫶🏻😭
This piece resonates, especially to anyone who's recently moved.
glad you could relate. thanks, Russell!
Funny imagining you tripping over yourself in the middle of the night. Another great bit of mundane yet quietly beautiful realism. Well done.
thank you :)
So relatable. Moving ain't easy, my friend. Enjoyed your poem greatly.
thank you, Victoria :)
careful those couch springs don't get you!
