drip, drip
let chaos rule the day
let disorder reign supreme
when you allow your mind
to command itself
in its own frenetic way,
with effervescent disarray,
you’ll ride horses on the moon
and dolphins will talk to you
and magic will fill your room —
that’s the only way
to find beautiful things
in the yucky space
that is extended loneliness
that is prolonged alienation
that is… that is…
when you close your eyes
without restraint
and let the words
speak themselves,
and let the characters
go where they want to go
you’ll see, you’ll see
drip, drip
it’s just your leaky faucet —
ignore it!
don’t worry ’bout trying to be somebody
forget trying to accomplish something
important,
you have way more exciting
things to do
Garbage Notes:
If I remember correctly, the drip drip thing came from an afternoon of hearing the faucet leaking, and being mildly annoyed by it. Having just sat down to do some writing, I was ready to get into the mindset of storytelling and I almost completely halted the process with the notion of getting up to go look at the faucet. But then I thought, fuck the faucet, it’s time to get down to the business of what you love to do.
We sometimes get too focused on planning and getting organized and tidying up our physical surroundings. All that stuff is good and has its place in our lives. But I think there are so many variables to life, that we have to be flexible and open minded to doing new and unimagined things and being in the moment. I’m quite content with letting some chaos into my day if it means I can be myself and do my own thing once in a while.
The little drippy faucet was still there when I finished my writing, and later on after I took care of it, I sat down again and wrote some more. I scribbled out this poem.
My favorite part is ‘…close your eyes, without restraint, and let the words speak themselves…’ The best writing is unforced. It comes without excuses, without apologies, and the more you practice and learn to find your moments, the more effortless and beautiful it will be.

Wonderful, beautifully organic ode to just letting it be.
