aim high
I aim high sometimes
— it’s the perfectionist in me…
I don’t know why sometimes
I can be so damn hard to please…
upstream is the only
place I like to go —
it’s fierce and it’s daunting,
but nothing else
does it for me…
I aim high despite
my problem nature —
despite my struggle
with normalcy…
I ride high because
I like the way the air smells,
but the wet ground tastes good too,
especially when I come
crashing down on my silly face
and get all covered in mud…
climb high with me!
I like to walk with the sincerest ones…
you know I cry sometimes
when I recognize my own limitations…
I can’t deny sometimes
how fun
it can be
to not believe
in the sanctity of those with power
because there’s strength
and respect for the ones
who always try
even when life
only ever seems to give them shit
Garbage Notes:
This is for all the highly flawed perfectionists out there.
When it comes to my work, I devote a lot of time to getting it all down right. Making sure it all sounds good and flows a certain way.
Not only am I fanatic about my prose, but I’m also ambitious too. And why shouldn’t I be? If something matters to you, you should want to give it the greatest chance to make an impression on the world.
I realize, though, that these qualities can lead to conflict and struggle. Competition at the highest levels is fierce, and the world isn’t always so kind.
It’s easy to get down on yourself, especially after you fail at something. And I’ve failed a lot, I know it.
I like the line that says, ‘I ride high, because I like the way the air smells. But the wet ground tastes good too.’
Like anything, you have to get comfortable getting yourself dirty. That’s why this place is called Garbage Notes, because to get to the really sweet stuff, you have to swim through a whole hell of a lot of trash.
And with each note, I hope to get a little closer.

I always feel this tremendous confidence in myself after reading your work. Makes me want to be a better version of Me. So glad I found you and Garbage Notes.
I love the part about not believing in the sanctity of those in power. That's what moved me the most. We admire those who never had to try in the first place. When we really should give more respect for daily struggle. Powerful thoughts.
